Family Friendly Things to Do in West London and Central London

Tamarisk Square sits within the historic Old Oak and Wormholt Conservation Area, a distinctive Arts and Crafts neighbourhood inspired by the Garden City movement. Guests enjoy tree lined streets, green spaces and a quieter residential setting that feels removed from the bustle of Central London while remaining well connected to the city’s attractions, Westfield London and excellent transport links.

London offers endless choices for eating, shopping and exploring, but finding the best local spots can be challenging. Superhost Helen has lived in the area for more than 10 years and shares her favourite family friendly restaurants, pubs, cafés, parks, attractions and hidden gems to help you experience West London like a local.

Ognisko restaurant door in South Kensington london

Ognisko Restaurant

A wonderful Polish social club in the heart of South Kensington, just a short walk from the V&A Museum and the Natural History Museum. Members of the public can enjoy the authentic Polish cuisine in a warm and welcoming setting, it’s one of our favourite hidden gems in London.

If you can’t get a table, it’s often possible to eat in the bar area without a reservation, subject to availability. We highly recommend the traditional pierogi (Polish dumplings), the grilled Polish sausage and beetroot soup. The cocktail menu is excellent too, with the Prune Daiquiri being a particular favourite.

Mercarto Metropolitan food court in church in mayfair.

Mercato Metropolitan – Food Hall in Mayfair
One of our favourite food halls in London, Mercato Mayfair is set inside the beautiful Grade I listed St Mark’s Church. The stunning architecture, stained glass windows and unique atmosphere make it worth a visit even before you’ve chosen what to eat.

Spread across several floors, you’ll find an excellent selection of international street food, bars and seating areas, including a rooftop terrace and restaurants in the atmospheric crypt below. It’s a great option for groups or families, as everyone can choose something different.

It can get very busy, especially at weekends, but the lively atmosphere is all part of the experience. If you’re looking for great food in a truly unique setting, this is a London gem we highly recommend. Near to Oxford Street, Primark, TK Maxx and Selfridges.

The outside of the Alfred Tennyson pub in Belgravia. Showing blue and white awnings and tables on the pavement.

The Alfred Tennyson
This welcoming local favourite serves excellent British food and is particularly known for its delicious Sunday roast dinners, which are some of the best in the area. We strongly recommend booking ahead.

It’s a perfect stop after exploring nearby attractions such as Harrods, Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace or the beautiful streets of Belgravia itself.
